Position Title: Chief Executive Officer (CEO)
Reports to: National Executive Committee (NEC) through the Hon. Secretary General
Duty Station: U.M.A National Secretariat Head Office, Kampala, Uganda
Contract Type: Fixed-Term (3-Year Contract, Renewable once based on performance)
About the Role
The Uganda Medical Association (U.M.A) is seeking a dynamic, vision-driven, and highly competent executive to serve as Chief Executive Officer (CEO). As the senior-most administrator of the Secretariat, the CEO will provide strategic leadership, drive organizational sustainability, oversee investments and commercial ventures, and foster strong stakeholder and membership relations.
Key Duties & Responsibilities
- Strategic Leadership & Operations: Execute U.M.A’s strategic objectives, lead Secretariat management, and implement policies set by the National Executive Committee (NEC).
- Financial Management & Sustainability: Partner with the Hon. Treasurer to oversee budgeting, financial reporting, risk management, and commercial investments/joint ventures.
- Resource Mobilization & Advocacy: Drive aggressive fundraising, donor proposal writing, grant management,
- and strategic partnerships to expand the Association’s financial base.
- Membership Growth & Engagement: Formulate strategies for recruiting, retaining, and supporting U.M.A members across Uganda.
- Governance & Legal Compliance: Ensure complete institutional compliance with regulatory, statutory, and governance standards.
Candidate Profile & Person Specifications:
Educational Qualifications:
You may be a strong fit if you have;
- MBChB or equivalent qualification
- At least five years of senior management or executive leadership experience
- Proven experience in a financial oversight and organizational management
- Experience working with boards or councils is required.
- A Master’s degree in Public Health, Business Administration, Strategic Management or a related field is an added advantage.
Contract: Fixed-term contract, renewable subject to performance appraisal.
Experience & Attributes:
Minimum of five (5) years of proven senior management or executive leadership experience.
Demonstrated track record in financial oversight, resource mobilization, and institutional governance.
Experience engaging with or reporting to executive boards/councils.
Must be a member in good standing with the Uganda Medical Association.
High integrity, strong negotiation skills, analytical capability, and executive presence.
