1913
Founded as Uganda Branch of BMA

UMA began as the Uganda branch of the British Medical Association in September 1913 under Dr. Albert Ruskin Cook.

1964
Constitution Adopted & Independence from BMA

UMA adopted its own constitution on June 15, 1964, and formally separated from the BMA by 1969.

1999–2005
Leadership by Dr. Margaret Mungherera

Dr. Mungherera was UMA’s first female president, leading an influential tenure and later becoming President of the World Medical Association.

How to Join UMA

Step 1: Be a registered medical doctor in Uganda (UMDPC registration required).
Step 2: Visit uma.ug and access the Membership section.
Step 3: Complete the online registration form.
Step 4: Upload your medical license and qualifications.
Step 5: Pay the annual membership fee and await confirmation.
