Guidelines for Authors

Article Submissions

The primary objective of article submissions to the journal is to advance or illuminate scientific or practical issues, educate readers, or provide intellectual discourse within the medical community. Manuscripts should present novel insights, empirical findings, or comprehensive analyses that contribute meaningfully to the field. The journal accepts manuscripts up to 10,000 words in length, inclusive of all sections.

Adverse Drug Reaction Reports

Reports documenting adverse drug reactions undergo rigorous peer review and, upon acceptance, are published in the Correspondence section. These submissions must adhere to the following specifications:

  • Maximum length: 900 words
  • Visual elements: One table or figure permitted
  • Citations: Maximum of five references
  • Authorship: Limited to five authors

Seminar Series

Seminar submissions represent comprehensive collections of related scholarly works that may be either scientifically or clinically oriented. These must constitute a minimum of three articles submitted collectively by:

  • Hospital departments
  • Medical schools
  • Research institutes

Larger collections of thematically related articles may qualify for publication as supplementary issues.

Hypothesis Papers

Hypothesis papers present novel scientific experimental proposals or theoretical approaches to emerging discoveries. These manuscripts should articulate concepts not previously explored elsewhere and must include:

  • Minimum length: 1,500 words
  • Citation requirements: Minimum of 20 references
  • Mandatory section: Detailed methodology for testing the proposed hypothesis
  • Note: New data should not be included in hypothesis papers

Debate Papers

Debate papers feature contrasting perspectives on controversial medical issues, jointly submitted by two authors or research teams. These manuscripts should present balanced arguments representing opposing viewpoints on contemporary medical controversies.

Comments and Letters to the Editor

The journal welcomes commentary on recently published work or current events within the medical field. These submissions should:

  • Not exceed 900 words
  • Include up to 10 references
  • Address content published within the past month or discuss upcoming events

Clinical Updates

Extended commentary pieces titled "Clinical Update:" are also accepted. These must:

  • Provide practical updates for clinicians outside their specialty
  • Not exceed 1,500 words
  • Include no more than 20 references
  • Contain 1-2 figures, panels, or tables

World Medical News

The Uganda Medical Journal invites submissions covering significant developments in science, medicine, policy, and notable figures in the medical field. These articles may be submitted by:

  • Professional journalists
  • Medical professionals
  • Researchers documenting significant events in their country that may be of international interest

All World Medical News submissions should provide comprehensive coverage of events with potential global significance to the medical community.
